Uncle Stuey's American Top 40, March 4th, 2009

Here's the Top 40 for about 50 AAA and Jazz radio stations. My fellow high school alum Tierney Sutton is in the top 10 with a new CD this week. She has one of thickest Milwaukee accents you will ever hear in LA. But you can't hear it when she sings and her band knows exactly what it's doing.

Last week, I saw the drummer from the Kind of Blue sessions, which is in the top 10 as well, play. I was sitting in back of the band five feet from the drummer, Jimmy Cobb. He's got to be 80. He looks 60. And my oh my that guy can play. He is a master. I could watch all the little things he was doing, everything to propel the beat, swinging subtly, but persistently all the time. I was amazed.
